Introducing Viewer User Role!

Stomio added a new user role: Viewer. Viewers have read-only access to a beta project. This is useful for support functions such as engineering management, customer support.

Introducing Viewer User Role!

At Stomio, we are committed to helping product teams streamline their beta programs, increase tester engagement, and facilitate the smooth running of beta tests. Until now, our platform has primarily featured two main management roles: "Admin" and "Manager". Today, we are excited to introduce a new role designed to enhance visibility and insights within your team: the "Viewer".

What is the Viewer Role?

The Viewer role, as the name suggests, allows users to view tickets and beta results to gain insights into how a beta program is progressing. However, unlike Admins and Managers, Viewers cannot interact with other testers or managers. This role is purely observational, providing read-only access to valuable data and performance metrics.

Key Features of the Viewer Role:

  • Read-Only Access: Viewers can access and review all tickets, bug reports, and beta results without the ability to modify any information.
  • Unlimited Viewers: Just like other user types, there is no limit to the number of Viewers in a workspace. You can invite anyone from your company who might be interested in tracking the beta program's progress.
  • Enhanced Transparency: The Viewer role allows stakeholders to stay informed without the need for direct involvement in the beta testing process.

Who Can Benefit from the Viewer Role?

The Viewer role is versatile and can be beneficial for various stakeholders outside the immediate product team. Here are a few examples:

  • Executive Team: Senior leaders who want to monitor the progress and performance of beta programs without getting involved in day-to-day operations.
  • Marketing Teams: Marketing professionals can gain insights into user feedback and feature reception to tailor marketing strategies and campaigns.
  • Customer Support Teams: Support teams can review common issues and bug reports to better prepare for post-launch support.
  • Sales Teams: Sales professionals can understand product enhancements and user feedback to better position the product to potential customers.

Limitations

  • Viewer Invitation Restrictions: Since all actions are disabled for viewers, a viewer manager cannot invite any other manager, including viewers.
  • Default invitation type: Currently, when a manager invites another manager to join the workspace, the default role of the new manager will be that of a regular manager. Once the invited manager accepts the invitation, an admin can change their role to the appropriate role, whether it is a regular manager, admin, or viewer.

Note: that this doesn’t apply to workspaces with Okta integration. For more information on Okta integration, check the next section.

Seamless Integration with Okta

If your workspace has Okta integration enabled, provisioning new users can be streamlined through a custom user attribute stomio_role that defines the user's role at the time of provisioning. For more detailed information on this process, please refer to the Okta documentation.
